Outdoor activities

The From the Sea to the River route offers infinite possibilities to practice outdoor activities and sports, both individually and by taking advantage of the services of specialised companies. For hiking enthusiasts, the route connects different trails, both coastal and volcano and mountain climbs. Hiking tours can be arranged in Costa Teguise. Road cyclists can enjoy, among many routes with a great variety of slopes, a Cycle Route of priority use for their sport. Mountain bike enthusiasts have tracks and trails available, including the Sea to River route itself. It’s advisable to stay on the routes due to the fragility of the natural environment. In Costa Teguise, there are several rental companies that also organise guided tours. Triathletes, marathon runners, trail runners and long distance swimmers will find here the ideal environment for training and important annual competitions. There are also adapted and Paralympic sports activities. There are several resorts especially equipped for athletes, within the framework of the Lanzarote European Sports Destination program. As far as sea activities are concerned, there is a wide offer in Costa Teguise as well as in Caleta de Famara. In Costa Teguise, the sheltered bay and good wind conditions offer the perfect setting for windsurfing, kitesurfing and wing foiling. Famara beach, with the nearby San Juan beach, offers one of the best spots in the Canary Islands, and in Europe, for surfing, as well as windsurfing and kitesurfing with waves. Surfing is often complemented by activities such as yoga and pilates. On the Teguise coast, the quiet Jablillo beach, with its abundance of marine life, is ideal for snorkelling, an introductory diving course, or a Sea Trek, an underwater walk with a unique helmet that enables normal breathing and great vision. All these activities are also offered for people with reduced mobility and special needs. Along the eastern coast of the municipality, there are several options for advanced shore or boat diving. The island of La Graciosa, and its neighbouring Alegranza, is a true underwater paradise: the protected waters of the Marine Reserve offer an incredible fauna, including angel sharks, groupers and rays, ancient coral formations as in Las Gerardias, and even archaeological remains. And if in addition to the land and sea you want to experience the sky, it’s possible to fly in paragliding from different take-off points along our route. Through a specialised company, you can fly over Famara’s beach and cliffs.
